About Today’s Guest: kei slaughter
kei slaughter (pronouns: they/them) is a Soul-Folk Sonic Storyteller conjuring bokou magik from deep New Orleans roots. A dynamic Vocalist, Songwriter, Flutist, Multi-Instrumentalist, and Board-Certified Music Therapist, kei delights audiences with their soulful, smart, and highly inventive compositions. In addition to writing and playing for a range of cross-disciplinary projects, kei also uses music as a tool for healing and social change in their heartwork with LGBTQ+POC and Youth of Color communities.
Recently, kei launched S O U L F O L K Sounds, a radical community music and sound healing practice for the People, lovingly centering Queer Black Magik and QTPOC Kin. In Spring 2018, kei won the Delgado Songwriting Contest and within the last year wrote, produced, and independently released their debut album, Dark Fire. Beyond the stage, kei is a whimsy pencil enthusiast/collector and creator of The Pencil Fairy.
